about being part of grassroots communities
devoted to assisting them to age with peace
of mind in the homes they cherish and the
neighborhoods they love.

Planning for the Future

“Since we’re all aging, we all should be planning for what we need now and in the future.  I found I truly need my Village as part of my personal care plan.”  — Avenidas Village member

One Call Does It All

“I was thrilled when the Village started in our area. I had long wished we had a Village like the one first started at Beacon Hill in Boston. I just have to call one person to get the help I need to stay in my own home. I am especially impressed with our great volunteers that make this wonderful program work.”—Monterey Bay Village member

Security

“This program gives us the security of knowing someone is there as we need them.  It is a great program that gives us and other retired people an opportunity to remain part of the community we have grown to love.”— Avenidas Village member

The Unexpected

“When I joined the Village, it was actually to broaden my horizons and meet new people.  Never did I guess how desperately I would need rides to doctor’s appointments and much, much more.  Healing is SLOW but it is better each day.  You have been so very wonderful.”—Santa Barbara Village Member

Hope for the Future

"I don't know what's going to happen in the coming years, how, exactly, I'll be impacted, but I know I'm going to need help. The concept of the Village gives me hope for the future, and a feeling that we're all in this together."—Santa Barbara Village Member

Health Effects of Social Isolation

Long-Distance Caregiver

“Thank you for your wise and kind guidance, patience, and perseverance over the past year. I’m a long distance caregiver from the east coast, worried about my folks on the west coast… You may remember, I originally called you last year to inquire about the your Village. Mom has been Dad’s caregiver due to his poor health, but now the tables are reversed. She’s been diagnosed with Alzheimer's, and he is now the main caregiver. Mom is in denial and won’t disclose her condition with anyone, and she believes she is still on top of things. Dad is run ragged trying to handle everything – it takes her an inordinate amount of time to shop for a few items, write out one check, decide what to wear, look for misplaced things… it’s a recipe for disaster. I feel as if I’m looking at an accident just about to happen, but I can’t do anything about it. But, thanks to the Village, I’m keeping my sanity, and Dad is gradually reaching out for assistance.“—Monterey Bay Village member

Not Alone

"What do I find best about being a member of this Village? The people. Knowing that I'm not alone. Before the Village, I felt like I wouldn't know what to do if something happened. Now I feel more secure knowing that there are people I can rely on at my Village."—Santa Barbara Village Member

Excellent Resources

“My family’s gift to our mother of a membership in the Village was one of the best decisions we could have made for the whole family. It’s often a time-consuming challenge for adult children to find competent and vetted volunteers and professionals to help meet the needs of an aging parent. Access to the excellent resources of her Village has made that task much easier, and we’re so grateful!”—Monterey Bay Village member

Friendliness

“The best thing about my Village, and what I rave to people about, is the friendliness of the people who work there.  They give me such a wonderful feeling of support!”—Avenidas Village member
