Our Village is a caring community that supports members to remain in their homes safely and affordably and encourages social connections promoting healthy, vibrant and meaningful living.
Right Idea, Right Time
North Star Village has joined the Village Movement currently sweeping the nation whose sole purpose is to support older adults to stay put in their own homes and live independently. That purpose is achieved by assessing the needs of those living within the Village service area to determine the practical services, programs and life-enhancing activities—all of which reduce isolation and make aging in place a possibility.
In short, a Village to keep us safe and comfortable as well as physically active, socially engaged, and mentally stimulated.
As we grow older, we know we may need help so we can age safely at home. Truth is, aging brings on changes and needs for services that can quickly accelerate and catch us unawares. While life-care facilities are preferred by some, nearly 90% of older adults desire to remain in the homes they love as long as possible, close to friends and neighbors, and in the neighborhoods they cherish.
A plan for aging in place is called for. Enter the virtual Village concept— an accessible, affordable, concierge-styled service option for retirement living that provides a network of resources and a way of living in community.
The concept of Villages was inspired by Beacon Hill Village, Boston. Founded in 2001, it was the first grassroots, community-based nonprofit organization of its kind.
Because the structure and programs of each Village is determined bythose who live within its service area, most Villages adapt the Beacon Hill Village model to reflect the needs and priorities of their own community.
North Star Village is proud to be following in the footsteps of Beacon Hill Village and more than 190 aging-in-place Villages nationwide. We currently are in the early phase of development, and our volunteers are working diligently to create a Village that will meet the needs and interests of the older adults who live within our Village service area.
