Our Village is a caring community that supports members to remain in their homes safely and affordably and encourages social connections promoting healthy, vibrant and meaningful living.
What is North Star Village?
North Star Village is part of a growing national aging-at-home movement. Our goal is to help older adults remain safely and happily in the houses or apartments they love for as long as possible by providing help with those tasks that become more difficult with age while also providing opportunities for social interaction.
What services and programs does North Star Village provide?
Trusted volunteers provide practical help, such as
- Transportation to the doctor, grocery store, airport, events
- Household and yard tasks
- Tech support
- Friendly visits
- Short-term pet care.
North Star Village members enjoy a wide variety of activities, including:
Cultural Arts: concerts, plays, museum visits
Literature and Learning: book club, library talks, lectures
Social Events: informal lunches, coffees, special interest groups (exercise, walks, crafts, bridge) and day trips.
North Star Village also provides referrals to recommended reliable professionals for members needing car or home repair, age-friendly remodeling and other services.
Note: We use volunteers ages 18 to seniors. You don’t have to be a member of North Star Village to be a volunteer but you certainly can be. For information about volunteer opportunities and training, call 503-793-8581.
What Kinds of annual memberships does North Star Village Offer?
Full-Service Membership provides access to all the services the Village offers, including:
- Practical help from volunteers,
- Referrals to recommended professional services
- Referrals to recommended community resources
- Social and educational activities.
Social Membership is for those who do not yet need assistance but want to support the Village, be part of the Village community, have access to the full array of social and educational offerings, and receive referrals to screened professional services and community resources.
In addition to memberships for older adults, North Star Village also offers membership for people with disabilities age 18 and up.

Who does North Star Village serve?
As a member-based, volunteer-driven organization, North Star Village serves the following 21 Portland neighborhoods:
Arbor Lodge, Cathedral Park, Hayden Island, Kenton,
Overlook, Portsmouth, St. Johns and University Park
Boise, Bridgeton, East Columbia, Eliot, Humboldt, King,
Piedmont, Sabin, Vernon and Woodlawn
Forest Park, Linnton and Sauvie Island.
How is North Star Village funded?
North Star Village is a part of Villages NW, a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization. North Star Village is supported by donations, grants, affordable membership fees and dedicated volunteers.
