10:45- 11:30 KEYNOTE: Paul Iarrobino -You Can’t Pour From an Empty Cup; Making Time for You How often have we heard terms like “self-care” and thought to ourselves, “I don’t have time for that,” or “that’s meant for someone else” or “what does that really mean anyway?” Our opening session will create the time and space for conversations and reflections caregivers rarely have the chance to have. Today’s sessions will help you find ways to weave “self care” practices into your busy role as caregiver.

11:30-12:15 Boxed Lunch and Resource Tables

12:15-1:30pm and 1:45-3:00pm Breakout Sessions: (Following lunch, participants are invited to choose two of the 75-minute workshops listed below)

Jumpstarting Creative Self Expression with Paul Iarrobino Let’s face it. Caregiving is a lot of work and can lead to feeling overwhelmed, anxious and isolated. This breakout session will cover common forms of therapeutic self-expression that can lead to greater resilience and overall happiness. Come discover what makes sense for you and create a plan for creative outlets.

Hopes, Fears and Anticipatory-Grief with Troy Kindy, LCSW When a person dies suddenly, family and friends begin the grieving process immediately. With a progressive disease however, where there are small cumulative losse the grieving process frequently begins long before the person passes away. Patients, their family and friends may experience profound anticipatory grief and loss, which can be crippling. Troy will present ideas pertinent to anticipatory grief for patients and caregivers and share coping strategies.

Caring For Our Whole Self with Judy Ulibarri RN HWNC-BC andInes Campoverde, PhD How easy it is to feel that we have so much to do, that we forget, or don’t make time to care for ourselves. This breakout session reminds us we cannot give away what we do not have. In our time together you will learn practices for connecting and caring for your whole self; body, mind and heart. Enjoy learning everyday steps to mindful breathing, quiet time and simple movement.

Nurturing the Caregiver Spirit with Chaplain Mary Ann Henry, MA, BCC and Chaplain Candi Wuhrman, MA, MJS, BCC While caring for a loved one can be spiritually rewarding, it can also leave your spirit drained. Whether you feel a sense of spiritual emptiness, pain and/or loss in your life now, or spiritually energized; this interactive, experiential and enlightening session explores multiple ways to “ ignite the sparks” of your inner fire.
